About Ghent

Ghent

The City of Three Towers

'The Proud City', 'The City of Artevelde', 'The City of Flowers': Ghent has many nicknames. One of them is 'The City of Three Towers', referring to the three medieval constructions that characterize the cities skyline. On our tour we will tell you everything about how these majestic buildings came to be and what they still represent to the Ghentian people today. Maybe we will also tell you something about the unofficial fourth tower of Ghent...

The Counts Castle

'Het Gravensteen', or 'The Counts Castle' is one of the best preserved medieval castles in Europe, right in the middle of the city center. The castle that you can visit today was built around 1180 and was home to many Flemish counts in its heydays. Its interesting history and amazing location make it a must-do when visiting Flanders.

More than a medieval city

An exclusive hotel in our old post building, a tourist office at the former fish market, bars and restaurants in Ghent's most significant historical venues...

One of the things that define Ghent today is the city's mix between its old, historical side and its modern, vibrant side. In a provoking, but very successful way, architects have integrated the energetic and modern city that Ghent, as one of Flanders' major cities, is today, into its ancient past.
